A diagnostic should sample the current ECO and reveal what feels familiar, slow or confusing. Take it before intensive review and record confidence beside answers. A correct guess and a confident correct answer do not represent the same readiness.
Do not spend the first week repeating the diagnostic until the number improves. Map results to domain, delivery context and error type. Use that map to choose the first learning priorities.
For every miss or uncertain answer, record the situation, your choice, the better principle and the error category. Useful categories include missing knowledge, misread wording, wrong role, premature action, ignored governance, weak value reasoning and pacing.
Write the correction in your own words. Then test the same principle through a different scenario. If the error disappears only when the original wording repeats, recognition has improved but transfer has not.
Timed sets help candidates notice when one difficult item consumes too much attention. Build a first-pass habit: answer what you can, mark uncertain items and preserve review time. Read carefully enough to identify words such as first, next, best and most likely.
A full simulation should reproduce the current sections and breaks. Practise letting go of the completed section because it cannot be reopened after a break. Review pacing by section, not only the total finish time.
Look for consistent results across new mixed questions, coverage of all three domains, manageable pacing and a shrinking set of recurring error patterns. You should be able to explain why correct answers are stronger and why plausible distractors are weaker.
If results swing widely, identify whether the source is topic mix, fatigue, question quality or fragile knowledge. Correct the cause, then retest with fresh material. Schedule decisions should also account for PMI’s current rescheduling policy.
Keep a simple log for every meaningful practice set: source, date, question count, time, result, domain, delivery approach and reason for each miss. Also record correct answers that were guesses. This prevents a high percentage from hiding unstable reasoning and reveals whether improvement transfers to new questions.
Classify misses consistently. Useful categories include missing knowledge, misread wording, wrong role, premature action, ignored constraint, poor sequence and time pressure. Choose one correction for the dominant category, then test it on unfamiliar questions. Repeating the same question immediately can measure memory instead of understanding.
Use full simulations sparingly and deliberately. They test endurance, pacing, break decisions and recovery after a difficult section. Schedule time afterward for a complete review. A simulation that produces a number but no correction plan consumes valuable preparation without creating much evidence of readiness.
Clear answers
None. PMI does not publish a universal fixed passing percentage. Use stable results and error analysis rather than a guarantee claim.
Take enough to rehearse endurance and confirm stability, while preserving time to review each one deeply. More is not automatically better.
Review correct guesses and low-confidence answers because they may reveal the same gaps as incorrect responses.
It can confirm recall, but fresh questions are better for measuring transfer and readiness.
Record the tested situation, your reasoning, the better principle, the error category and the action for future scenarios.
Identify the missed principle, practise it in a new context and measure whether the error repeats.
