The current format combines independent questions with more applied work. Preparation should train both knowledge and decision-making.

The exam is delivered at a Pearson VUE testing centre or, where available and appropriate, through online proctoring. PMI recommends reviewing the current delivery rules and completing the system test before choosing the online route. The tutorial and post-exam survey are optional and do not use the 240-minute examination allowance.
There are two 10-minute breaks. The first follows the case-study portion and the second occurs around the midpoint of the independent-question portion. Once a section is reviewed and its break begins, earlier questions cannot be reopened. Time management therefore needs to be practised by section rather than treated as one uninterrupted four-hour block.
Domain percentages are not a reading schedule by themselves. People work appears inside delivery decisions; process questions often require stakeholder judgement; business-environment questions connect projects to value, compliance and strategy. Study each domain, then practise scenarios that cross the boundaries.
The 2026 exam increased Business Environment to 26 percent and added greater emphasis on AI, sustainability, value and stakeholder engagement in context. That does not mean memorizing technology or sustainability definitions. It means evaluating information, consequences, governance and outcomes as a project leader.
Start by identifying the role, lifecycle context, delivery approach, immediate problem and decision the question actually asks for. Separate the best next action from something that might eventually be useful. Look for options that diagnose before acting, engage the right people and protect value without bypassing governance.
Do not turn those ideas into rigid slogans. Some situations require escalation, decisive risk response or compliance action. The evidence in the scenario should control the answer. Review explanations by writing the principle you missed—such as stakeholder engagement, servant leadership, change control or benefits alignment—rather than copying the answer letter.
Readiness is consistent performance under realistic time and concentration demands. One high practice score can be luck or recognition. Use several mixed sets and at least one full-length simulation, then check whether weak domains and recurring reasoning errors are improving.
Schedule the exam when performance is stable, you can explain most mistakes, and you have rehearsed the two-break structure. Leave enough time to correct gaps without extending study indefinitely. A defined exam date can focus the plan, but it should not override clear evidence that more preparation is needed.
Content knowledge is only part of readiness. Decide how you will use the 240-minute appointment, the two scheduled breaks and the transition between independently answered items and more applied work. Practise the same food, hydration, screen position and break routine before the real appointment so those choices do not compete for attention on exam day.
Create a pacing check for each section without forcing every question into the same time allowance. A difficult scenario can deserve a deliberate reread, but one uncertain item should not consume the time needed for several answerable items. Learn how the delivery interface handles flags, reviews and closed sections from official instructions and the tutorial presented at the appointment.
Prepare the logistics separately. Confirm the appointment type, identity requirements, test-centre route or online testing rules, check-in time and prohibited materials from the current confirmation. Use PMI and the examination vendor as the authority; do not rely on a training provider’s old checklist when appointment instructions differ.
